Illuminating Our Path – The Creator!
Brad Hewey believes that the Creator God puts the colors into our path. Refresh your soul by being reminded of God in the little details of beauty on your daily commute!
An Unexpected Treat
Recently, on my drive to work, what an unexpected treat it was to my eyes (but more so, to my spirit) to see the sun illuminating all the different homes, making the colors simply “pop”! How vivid they were against the strong contrast of a clear blue morning sky. The yellow one, the red one, the three white ones in a row, even the brown one…. all taking on a different hue, a different look in the brilliant sunlight. We don’t often take note of the color of homes, unless we’re looking to find a particular house, on a street we’re unfamiliar with. Truly the sunshine makes such a huge difference.
The colors that I’ve been passing by for the last few weeks, have been so very dull, so muted in their tones. Everything drab, everything seemingly under the suppression of a grey winter. We haven’t had the worst or harshest winter by any means here in the Maritimes, but I’m sure if you counted the number of days of sunshine, it would fall into the low end of the spectrum.
As I drove past the homes, and across the section of outstretched fields, they too were basking in sunshine, the exposed grass sparkling and shimmering from a dusting of overnight snow. Off in the distance, dotted across the horizon, the white blades and towers of the relatively new wind turbines were reaching up to grab the morning sun.
The Details Remind Us Of Our Creator
In the smallest of details we can be reminded that there is a creator. The creator is God. It’s a nice shot in the arm, an affirmation of faith; when these moments, these revelations of the reality of our GOD just hit us in the face, like a ray of sunshine… without any forethought, or predetermination. Sometimes, we’re happily struck by an overwhelming sense of the presence, past and current…of our Maker, Redeemer, our Heavenly Father.
I’m reminded of Hebrews 11, the “faith” chapter. “The evidence of things unseen.” Inanimate things becoming substantive, and bearing witness to our God who has created everything for his glory, and for our benefit. He who is “above all, in all, and through all….in all of us” who believe and trust in his name.
God can use a morning commute; and something as simple as the reflection of sunlight on a building to draw us to him, to refresh us, and to remind us that he truly does guide our footsteps and illuminate our path.
Creator? or An Accidental Creation?
How can such beauty, such design be taken for granted or simply relegated to a theory of accidental creation?
As the wind turbines continued to turn in the distance; I couldn’t help but think…. though they catch the eye and appear as decorations or ornaments on Gods skyline, they but creations of man! No matter how grand, how large scale, they are dots and specs on a landscape that stretches farther than the eye can see. Yes… credit to man, for this God given ability to create ingenious works that draw from minerals, elements, and gravity. Works that are the marrying of science and nature. Works that are producing heat and light themselves to warm us and comfort us. But it all stems from God.
The Creator’s Work on Instagram
On Instagram, there are sites you can f0llow…. geographical sites that offer up daily photos from virtually anywhere in the world. One of the sites I follow in particular is called “Perfect Italia”. It showcases some of Italy’s most breathtaking landscapes. Every picture could be set in a frame and hung proudly and beautifully on a wall. But in every shot, brimming with natures beauty, there is a work of architecture highlighted. When it comes to architecture, Europe, and certainly Italy itself are home to some of the most renowned.
But no matter how beautiful the featured coliseum, the basilica, the arena, or opera house, it’s beauty is encapsulated by the natural beauty that surrounds it, Gods creation. And if we are to praise man alone for the amazing feats of work and art…. wrought from his hands, we don’t have to let our minds venture far to attribute the talent of the blade, the layers of the stone, the texture of the marble….to God.
The Creator God Puts The Color Into The Earth
It is our GOD who has put the color into the earth, the herbs and the grasses, the cedars and junipers, and aspens and pine.
“Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof. 12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice” Psalm 96
It is our GOD who has put the color, the depth, the motion and the life into the brooks and streams, the lakes, the seas and the oceans.
It is our GOD who has put the color into the heavens, the brilliant blues and vibrant reds, the billows of white cloud, the foreboding dark grey and stormy skies, that show the power and variety that is all of God.
The Creator Illuminating Our Commute
As Christians we’re certainly aware of that, and we believe in it solely and completely. David says: The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear, the Lord the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid. Psalm 27:1
But how wonderful and faith affirming it is, when suddenly and unexpectedly, God gives a wonderful reminder, as we round a corner on a somewhat regular commute to work.
Yes indeed, our God is the light of the world. All creation bears the marks in the literal sense, and his spirit bears witness to his light in the spiritual sense. Aren’t we to be filled with rejoicing continually, that we are able to walk in the light of his glory and grace?
“Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.” Psalm 89:15
