Sharing God’s Word- How Do You Share Your Faith With Strangers?
Do you struggle to share your faith? Janis talks about her experiences engaging in conversations about God with strangers.
How To Share Your Faith
Do you share your faith with strangers? What does God say about this?
Let’s take a look today at Luke 10:27
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
What does that really mean?
Here is a story that happened a few years ago.
As I tried to get a handle on my mom’s finances I had a phone conversation with a representative of an insurance company. I had attempted to get information about my Mom’s policy so I could make sure she had received a cheque from them. Of course, the agent told me I needed to send them my Power of Attorney papers before I could truly get much information.
However she was most kind and tried to help. After my giving her enough information she was able to tell me that the cheque had indeed been deposited.
While talking to her we talked about parents and how they are doing. I told her my Mom’s mind was very clear and her forgetfulness wasn’t too bad (sometimes I think mine is worse, really). She told me that her Mom had to move to a nursing home as her mind was not doing well at all. I said that my Father-in-law had the same problem but that everything that he engaged in was positive. He could not recall any unhappy moments, no speeding tickets, no pain and “everything is wonderful”.
We both thought that brought peace to him and to his family.
The lady on the phone’s mom was the opposite to my father-in-law – everything was wrong, negative and it was very hard for her to speak with her mom without feeling depressed and emotional.
I commiserated with her and asked if I could pray for her and for her family. She gratefully accepted this. I probably should have gone further and offered to pray for her right then on the phone. But I didn’t. I have prayed for this woman and her Mom since that conversation.
Letting God Lead
Do you actively engage in conversations with strangers? I am an Introvert by nature but an extrovert in Christ. I find myself interacting more and more with complete strangers. God leads me in conversations to say things I never would have a few years ago.
Another friend told me about her similar experience.
While on their morning walk, her hubby and she again met a man who drove his wheelchair while walking his dog through one of the parks they walked through.
On other occasions they had just nodded their greetings. But that morning he seemed friendly, and smiled, so they stopped to chat for a while. Her husband noticed the man had a prosthesis (they hadn’t seen that before), so he asked about it and questioned if the man had any pain.
“Oh yes, I always have pain,” the man said.
“Can I pray for you?” her husband asked.
The man said yes, and so right there in the park, they prayed for him.
Are you trying to be aware of God led appointments? Watch, listen and you too can be a good neighbour as Jesus called us to be.
Until next time, when we read the Bible let’s remember it is not just to be read but to be lived.
