Although it is impossible to get precise statistics it is clear that the Bible is the world’s best-selling and most widely distributed book. A number of years ago the Bible Society did a survey and came to the conclusion that around 2.5 billion copies of the Bible were printed between 1815 and 1975. More up to date figures put the number at more than 5 billion.

The Bible has been translated into 349 languages; 2,123 languages have at least one book of the Bible in that language.

Extract From the Bible

Please read the following extract from the Bible. As you start a New Year listen to what God says in His timeless book. It will set you up not just for 2018 but for the rest of your life if you believe it.

Romans 10:8-17 (The Bible – NKJV)

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

challenge for 2019

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”

But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Regular Bible Reading

But do people who have a bible read it regularly? Statistics show that most people professing faith in Jesus have never completely read the Bible. Many people start reading the Bible but then become overwhelmed by the number of chapters (1,189) and verses (31,102) there are. What most people don’t realize is that you can read the Bible in a year by reading fewer than four chapters a day.

Will you accept the challenge to read the Bible through once this year. May I wish you every blessing for 2019.
